For decades, economics degrees have trained students on growth, largely ignoring ecological breakdown. Even today, ecological limits and inequality can sit at the edges of an economics degree rather than at its centre. Association for Quality Economics (AQE) is creating a new accreditation body to change this. Students help set standards for what a good economics degree should include and assess courses against them. Rather than waiting for individual universities to change, AQE is building a counter organisation to challenge how economics is taught across the UK. Emergence supports the membership-based organistaion with its initial startup costs.
