Decisions about local economies are often made by governments and economic experts, rather than the people whose lives they shape. People’s Economy is exploring what happens when communities have more power to shape economies that meet their needs while respecting the limits of the natural world. It works with people to understand how issues like housing, jobs, climate and public services are connected, and what they could change locally. The longer-term aim is to build a network of communities that share ideas and take on greater responsibility for economic decisions. Emergence supports People’s Economy to train eight new facilitators and connect groups experimenting with different approaches across the country.
