The Land Gardeners use gardens, exhibitions and film to help people see soil not as dirt beneath our feet, but as a living system connected to the world around us. Their London exhibition SOIL (2025) featured a film tracing connections between Britain’s temperate rainforests and underground fungal networks. As the exhibition travels to the coastal town of Hastings (2026/27), the film will follow those connections out to sea. Filmmaker Joya Berrow will work with local ecologists to connect forests and fungi with coastal soils, kelp and the seabed. As the exhibition travels, the film will keep growing through the ecosystems and people it encounters. Emergence Trust supports the Hastings chapter, including research, filming and public gatherings.
